The ‘Suertes de Godoy’ Estate, as mentioned in 1909 [in the book] by D. Alfredo Villegas, land manager to the Earl Fernán Núñez, is located in the centre of the San Pedro mountain range, 30km away from the city of Cáceres and surrounded by oak and blockhead forest. This is the ideal environment in which to rear the principal pasture animal of the region; the Iberian Pig.

These animals have always been reared on the estate and, despite a terrible African pest epidemic during the 1950s to 1970s, which decimated not just the animal population but the people of the area also, the Iberian Pig has been reaching, little by little, the quality and purity for which it has become renowned nowadays.

However, since the 1980s a new generation of breeders have also been modernising the facilities available for the birthing, weaning and rearing of these animals, without neglecting the traditional methods of development and the importance of constant contact with the natural environment, available throughout the entire estate which provides nourishment for the animals such as acorns and grass.

The result is an Iberian Pig that after three years of growth provides an excellent ham, one who’s quality is acknowledged by the ‘Dehesa de Extremadura’ Spanish label of food excellence, a mark of distinction; a ham that will provide a truly unique sensation when tasted.
